No Music from installed programs.

I just installed the AMD 64 version and found it a great install. Most everything works except no music from CD & I can't view mpegs or DVD's with totem. To listen to music on my box I installed XMMS that works very well from the HD. However, XMMS will not play from the CD. The files show up but will not play. Any easy fixes for this computer non-literate. My other OS I use is Zandros 2.0. It works well for this old guy but I do like the Ubuntu 64. I love the Ubuntu 64 except for the above problems. It is a very stable system, but I am an old Win 3.1 user.
