I realize that Mint is based off of Ubuntu and that the IP tables are the same... I just wonder if their are some other apps or different changes made to the system that could exploit the OS?

Reason being... I am being attacked like there is no tomorrow on Mint

WTF is up with that?

I am receiving a lot of blocked connections from IPs and unknown services associated with it.

I can assure you that your system is not being attacked, You are experiencing problems with network manager. Keep in mid that Mint 4.0 is still beta.

I have proposed some resolutions for issues the beta has but the final decision is up to clem.

My advice would be to post your bug on the Mint forums. I feel that the bugs in the beta can all be worked out, it just takes time.

are you behind a router with a firewall?

If so you have nothing to worry about.

Actually I am running 3.1 - maybe this is due to Samba - the services that are being blocked are Sun-RPC portmap?

NAT is not a security feature. No firewall is infallible, and uninformed people will always claim that if you're behind a router, you're safe. That's garbage.

Wait are they planning on sticking with Network Manager?! That was about the main reason I was considering mint, that they DONT use it! Bah good luck to them.

Network Manager is a nice feature in Mint, I hope they keep it.

This is true to a point. You are still vulnerable If you are running a P2P program and you are behind a firewall.
