OK--I just "created" my first theme for Gnome---PurpleTest. I wanted a purple theme & looked around for one--couldn't find one & decided to make one myself.
This is a "blend" of elements from themes--I liked buttons from one (changed colors), very modified GTK/GTK2 elements from another & my own take on a Window border...
Take a look at-- http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=28307&PHPSESSID=fced57b6239b8e31d4fea302594bd4ce
I included my re-skin of osXclock (a gDesklet) in the Gnomelook download----
Or get it without the clock here--

Cool. I think you forgot index.theme (if I'm not mistaken, you need this file in the root directory in order for the main theme itself to appear in "Theme Preferences").
I guess this one isn't really my style, so someone else should comment on the art ;-)

Hey, it's very nice. I'd probably use a blue version of it, or just the gtk controls (I like the rounded tabs). The only thing I don't particularly like is the window controls, it looks like the inactive and active controls should be swapped, because the inactive is stronger than the active. Otherwise, it's great =D>

Point taken--I'll do a reverse with the next update--I was trying to make the buttons "shine" when they were in focus. If you want a blue one--I'll work on it--are you interested in the clock too?
Hey Lux--if you just have the theme manager install it, it will work ok--you can also manual install it in your /home/your user name/.theme directory also---

Actually, that's what I did, and there was no "PurpleTest" in the list of themes, but I could select your metacity and gtk themes separately in "Theme details." I just dragged the bz2 into the Theme Preferences window. Did I do something wrong?

Don't go to too much trouble, I've gotten quite used to the clearlooks gtk :-# .. but I'm sure it wouldn't go unappreciated with others to have different options.

Hey--I'm just playin' around--I'm bored with what I've downloaded & wanted to try to "really" use GIMP & Inkscape--I used Screem to do the XML editing--good to "practice" before using the software for my clientsO:)
Hey Lux--I I didn't include a icon theme, so selecting "elements" is the only way--you did it 100% correct--good chance to mix'n'match your own theme:)

Reversed the focused & unfocused buttons--I agree--looks better. Is anyone else interested in a blue variant? Also--should I put more space between buttons?
Edit--Maybe I ought to post the update??:-?
OK--here it is--

Looking good. One thing I notice is that the grey in the title bar clashes with the main color. Either one alone would be fine, but they don't look like they belong together. Keep up the good work!

Well-I was working on a series that used the same "basic" elements---I went with a neutral color under the theme base color--all depends on your taste---throw me a idea of what you would like & I'll see about working something up. What about the themes do you like/hate?

THANKS!! I was worried that it was too bright--but you sure know where to grab the window:-) I'm on my workweek, so the next real time I'll have for design play is this next weekend--I'll work up a soft gray one---are you interested in the clock? I could do a shiny gray one or the wavy face (I will take some time to setup the shiny gray--still need to go into OSX for that work:-?--havn't figured out how to do it in GIMP yet)---
And any things/ideas anyone wants---just ask--I need the time working with my new toys--
DAMM!! I just figured out how to do it in GIMP!!!!! benplaut!!! take a look at this one----

The brightness didn't bother me; I like the bright green. In themes based on a particular color, I always go for the brighter ones, myself.

OK Ben!! ITS HERE!!! You wanted GrayTest--You got it--got home & was in the right mood &-----well--you be the judge!!
The Gkrellm theme is Acqua-Graphite by Aronnax (aronnax at tortoreto.it)
Desktop wallpaper is "Something Blue" by Digitalblasphemy.com
This one feels really nice--You have enough gray tones to have fun with:wink:
And you will need gDesklets-----
I'm uploading it to Gnome-look.org as soon as I finish this--but you get it first!!!

You're color scheme isn't really too my taste. But, I like your window controls and your clock is pretty neat. I agree with some of the posts above that a blue or grey scheme might be cool.

Well--I have been using Screem for the xml editing--might try Bluefish & see if I like it better--GIMP is doing almost everything I want--
I started with elements that I liked & edited/blended the xml files until they worked--The GTK & GTK2 files work the same basic way--you really would need a color checker--I've downloaded Kcloorchooser & Kcoloredit--You also Really need to make sure your monitor is color matched correctly--I have a current post on how to install the newest version of Monica (3.3)--If you have a "eye" for color--give it a try!!
I do webdesign work & graphic design & have been "almost" OSX-free for two months now (DAMM--sounds like a AA stick!). Now I've mostly got a line on the GIMP, I think I can finally cut the apronstrings:grin:

Hey jbrader---
Take a look at the other posts in this thread or cruise to gnomelook.org--My current series includes---
PurpleTest -- BlueTest -- GreenTest -- GrayTest
Try them on for size & see what you think & if you don't like--just drop me a suggestion that you would like to see--I have no probs with working up a look for your taste--everyone likes something different!!
And Ben--10000000 thanks!! I really like working up something that people like--
