Game window resizes and freezes

Ok here is one I just want to see if anyone else has had this problem and maybe knows how to fix it. When I am playing some cool native linux games sometimes the game goes into windowed mode from full screen and is in a window about the 1/4 size of the screen. While it is in this windowed mode the game is generally unresponsive. After a few seconds (maybe 10) the game returns to full screen and won't do it again for about 30 more minutes maybe. Any help?

Disable Compiz before running the game. Generally the root cause of most unusual window takeovers.

That could easily be what it is since I do have that running all the time, thanks a million!

might also want to disable screen saver
