Apparently, Neil Patel (http://njpatel.blogspot.com/), author of Avant Window Navigator, Affinity and other blingy things, is up to something new: a theme engine. There's no code to be seen yet, and I haven't found any info on it other than these mockups on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29906893@N00/tags/avantthemeengine/).

looks pretty awesome clearlooks/ubuntulooks engines are too limited, and pixmap engine is too slow, a new engine is really needed.

Patel has just posted to ubuntu-art (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-art/) about the theme:

Looks very nice. I hope that when it is finished, its colors can be edited like clearlooks (or a few others).

Why doesn't the ubuntu art community take this on as a project?
Working together I think we could all contribute to creating a theme based on those mock ups.

Nice screenshots and great news. Hope something useful comes out of this!
I expect it's possible to tune down and customise the plastic fantastic glossy style buttons and colours. Most of it is pretty good but maybe a bit too much in the long run?
He and the contributors are absolutely doing some great work both on Awn and Affinity. Very positive.

i tried installing a murrine theme and setting its engine as avant, its very fast, faster than even cleearlooks, the murrine them was a bit screwed up, but thats to be expected, has anyone made a theme tailored for the engine yet?
