This thread is important to beginners, unlike all the "which language" threads.

I'm +1 on the sticky. One thing to consider is the number of stickies, which is quite important in PT. What about a general closed sticky for beginners to pull the following ones and linking to threads in the sub-forum? Would you agree with that ?

+ the one in OP.

There are too many stickies, and I wasn't going to make this request because of it. I feel this sticky and:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=554070

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=333867

should be stickies, the "How did you learn" thread is pointless.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=169891 is not sticky worthy in my opinion also.

Joining them all together would make the threads pointless.

I am thinking a grand unified sticky with links to other, non-sticky threads would be good, kind of like the "New to Programming in Linux" thread, but for more topics.

This way, we could have only three stickies, the "New to Programming in Linux", "Suggestions for Beginners", and the GUS (Grand Unified Sticky) that points to various threads and is periodically updated.

The "New to Programmin in Linux" sticky points to the IDE sticky, so the IDE sticky can be taken down also, as anyone who is not new to programming in linux will not need it.

So, the stickies would be:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=602101 (Suggestions for beginners)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=554070 (New Programmers in Linux)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=333867 (How to start programming)

and the GUS, which would be named something like "Linux Programming Reference", and include a list of topics including the IDE, FastCGI and RoR, Hello Ubuntu, and such.

This would keep the stickies easy to use and simpler.

Okay, Ive made some rearrangements.
Please suggest links for the Linux Programming Reference sticky. I got a couple links, but better have it right the first time around ;)

This will be updated while I make the list, when I feel I am "finished", I will state so.

The first two are stickies, unsticky them if this is implemented. A small but useful sticky section will result.

Also, threads on particular languages will be helpful. So far, there are 2, Python, Perl. I'll find them and add them to the list
