So, i have tryed asking this here and there in some other posts but no reply, so can someone help me please =]

I have a second machine that i installed Ubuntu gusty 7.10 on, BTW im a total linux noob, i just lost my linux virginity ^_^

The plan:
To have this machine as a file server through my house + web server as a testing server etc.

I want to be able to access the htdocs directory from my windows machine, since i have XAMPP on here, and am used to it, but want to move all my (approx 6gb) of web files/scripts/etc to this other machine, as who ever heard of a windows server LOL jokes.

So far, i have installed samba, through "shareing folders" or something, and i installed XAMPP or LAMPP onto the machine, although im not like'ing yet, since i cant edit files without Running EVERY file i edit through sudo..

and FTP etc.. theres mods like GD that im gonna want to install with php

I dont know of the best way to have a small webserver is useing xampp, please can someone tell me, since i have been through millions of posts here about setting up everyhting individually.. but then im gonna need all the bits and bobs.. from what i think i need (looking at the xampp list..)
Apache, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, GD,Webalizer, And a Send mail server.. since i dont know what programme sends "mail" from php in linux >_<

This would be SOO much help!
Thanks!
