I am converting from Windows and need to find replacements for my favorite emulators. I figured that emulators written for Linux would have better performance than Windows ones run through Wine.

I need/would like the following consoles:
- GameBoy Advance/GameBoy - in Windows I used VisualBoy advance
- Super Nintendo - I used snes9x
- genesis - used kega
- nes - used nestopia
- Arcade - used MAME
- playstation - used epsx
- dreamcast - used chankast

I would like to find the best alternatives to these emulators. Please tell me where I can get these programs, and if they are difficult to install a How To.

Also in Windows I used GlovePie to use my nintendo wiimote (classic remote) as a wireless gamepad. Is there an alternative to this?

Many thanks to any help that can be given.

snes9x has a linux port
NES has an emulator - I think you can find it in Synaptics Package Manger
MAME has a linux port

I don't know about the others, but I believe there is a GameBoy emulator in the package manager too.

I like to use the following :D

NES - FCE Ultra with GFCE Ultra frontend
SNES - ZSNES
N64 - Mupen64
Playstation - pSX

From your list, I believe nestopia runs (can't remember if there was a linux port, or if it was with wine...), snes9x is in the official repositories, and there is a ePSXe how-to guide within this forum.

BTW, speaking of mupen64, I also have a specially compiled version of Mupen64_nogui for mythtv users, if anyone is interested ;)

Ok Some actual names:

XMame (MAME Emulator) - Multiverse Repository [Synaptics Package Manager]
snes9x-x (SNES) - Multiverse Repository [Syaptics Package Manager]
- Note: There is a version on the SNES9X website that is more up to date with more features and the classic UI.
GNUBoy-x (GameBoy) - Multiverse Repository [Synaptics Package Manager]

I am sure Google can find more

There's also GENS for Genesis/Megadrive etc. See the Gens for Linux ubuntu package (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=290008) thread for advice and debs.

ePSXe (and PCSX) are bothl available for Linux, but I have to add my voice to dfreer's: pSX (http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/) is far the superior (and easier - by far - to install and configure) Playstation emulator - in Linux and Windows.

if you use kega fusion there is a linux\unix version u can download it here http://www.zophar.net/linux/sms-gg/kega-fusion.html it works but you might have some sound issues with sega cd games(if the file ext is .bin the music works fine but i cant get it to work with iso images also if your using a bin file for sega cd make sure u have the cue file) :guitar:

zsnes is a good snes emulator for linux u can download it in the repositories

for game boy games vba express is good (dont use vba it wont let u configure a controller)

and if u play pc engine/turbografx 16 games hugo is a decent emulator

also menafen is a good multi platform emulator but its hard to configure(still havent figured out how to set up my controllers for it lol and ive been using it for about 2 months)
