Hi, I'm new here so hopefully this isn't too dumb a question. :)

I recently installed Gusty 64-bit, and noticed that one of the repositories available is "gutsy-proposed". Now I'm familiar with all the other ones, but this one's new to me. Who proposes the packages available in it, and is it safe to enable for regular use?

I used to only have the security and updates extra repositories enabled, but then I learnt about the usefulness of backports, but I don't know what proposed is. Enlighten me.

It's beta testing for packages 'proposed' for addition to regular repositories.

And yes indeed, there should be descriptions of what the terms mean right there in Synaptic, as well as in the official documentation.

This new business in Gusty of changing 'commerical' to 'partners' is a little odd too. There may be a good reason for that, but on the surface it's a less descriptive term and should have definition nearby.

Which is very possibly in the works. "Rome wasn't built in a day", and all that.

Ok, fair enough. I tried searching for the info before but didn't know exactly where to look.

FYI, I have not had good luck with the proposed repository. Things can break...

Anyone have an easy suggestion for downgrading?
