I have been using Gnome for a a bit (for about 1 month, since the beginning of my Linux experience) and I like it a lot, but I haven't tried KDE and I've heard good reviews of it. So I have decided to try it but I don't like rpm distros. So are there any suggestions as to what I use? It would also be helpful if you posted reason(s) as to why you suggest them.

I see that Mint is your favorite. Why not trying Mint KDE version ?

If you are looking for bleeding edge and blazing fast, give Sidux a try. It's based on Debian Sid, but the Sidux team uses custom scripts to attempt to stabilize it as much as possible. Also it is a rolling release and you only need to install it once and just run the smxi script to upgrade to the newest apps, drivers and kernels.
Or, since you like Mint, try the Mint KDE version.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am downloading Mint KDE right now, and I'll try Sidux after it.

so what is wrong with Kubuntu? :) to try out KDE you just need to apt-get the kde packages... or just the whole kubuntu-desktop

Because I have heard that the KDE Apps will conflict with the Gnome ones.

yes... but if you are going to install another distro anyway :D... why not install kubuntu? then you will have all the usuall/friendly ubuntu repositories... AND you would get support on the best forums of the world

Xubuntu then open your terminal and paste this:
sudo apt-get install kde
Then simply restart X (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) and log into your KDE session.

Why xubuntu? Why not use the server install disk and not get any of the gtk stuff?
I would recommend Mint's KDE version and sidux like everyone else. Also, don't rule out plain-jane Debian either. Lenny is a pretty good distro in its own right.

Sidux and Mint are both very nice. I have not played with Mepis recently, but I really liked it back in the day... which I guess would be last year.

Mepis is usually good, but I would actually suggest PCLinux, its RPM based yes but its the best RPM distro I have used as it uses Synaptic and apt plus its KDE is pretty solid.

The RPM offerings really do have the best KDE going. Mandriva 2008 and Suse 10.3 are spectacular. PCLOS is OK, and even Fedora (typically a gnome distro) has a good kde version too.

Personally I feel PCLOS to be quite good compared to the current mandriva... just waay too unstable.

Thanks for all of these suggestions!
Right now I am trying out PCLinuxOS. Yesterday I tried Kubuntu, but I didn't really like it. I got insterested into PCLOS becasue it is at the top of the Distrowatch rank chart, so there's got to be something going for it. Posting back later :)

Good luck with her, like I said I personally feel that PClinux is pretty good for a RPM based distribution as they have a decent team working on the repositories over there keeping most of everything stable.
the only issue I have with PClinux is its lack of packages compared to ubuntu, its library is pretty small.
But its sort of a good sacrifice, by offering a stable repository and mostly stable packages PClinux is pretty good in my opinion.

Ok I have just tried out PCLinuxOS, but I didn't really like it. I guess I like the simplicity of Gnome after all. But the installation has messed up a few things. Please see this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3672220#post3672220

I recommend Mepis. It recognizes my hardware far better than any other distro.
