Ubuntu Ultimate has come out with a Gutsy based OS (1.6) and Linux Mint has released a beta of their Gutsy. Has anybody had experience with both Ubuntu Ultimate and Linux Mint? I've tried Linux Mint and loved it, but haven't tested Ubuntu Ultimate.

If someone could give a comparison (pro's and con's) of both them, that would be much appreciated.

ive used both. basically ubuntu ultimate has ALOT more packages installed by default.(unless you get the mini version) if i had to make a choice, i would go with mint. although i love the dark theme of ultimate. you cant lose with either one, really. just try both live cd's and see which one you like.

btw, it's gutsy, not "gusty". cheers.

Mint is very well put together.

Mint is very well put together. ... Depends ... It has its fair share of troubles and rough edges. :)

i just tried mint 4.0 beta, and it was pretty good. basically everything "just works". plus mint has some original implimentations. (mintinstall, mintdisk, etc.) it's a very easy to use disro.

but i also like the look and feel of ultimate.

flip a coin.

I am using Mint too, but sometimes the Mint Menu eats up 200 MB of RAM, so I have disabled it now.

I have just installed Linux Mint this morning and found it to be pretty good. The only reason I actually installed it though was because when I reinstalled Gutsy, I wasn't having the best of times. I would boot, it would go to like the thing when you press CTRL + ALT + F2 and wasn't letting me boot graphically. I figured I could put Gutsy back on with a clean install but instead I decided to download Mint from my mums pc to try out.

It has gone extremely well for me so far. No problems at all. The only thing that has been the slightest of things wrong, and this isn't any problem at all was that when I installed LMMS through the Mint Installer it didn't give me an easy way to get to it. No desktop icon, no menu for it in /home/liam. It was really easy to find though, it was in /usr/share/applications/lmms so that really wasn't a problem.

I recommend Linux Mint to all people out there wanting to try something new, but not changing from the original Ubuntu too much.

That was exactly why I switched to Mint, because Gutsy was more sluggish than I expected.

I could never get a good download or steady down rate from any sources for Ultimate so I gave up , But as far as which one , I recommended Mint to a newcomer in hopes he didn't need to worry about codecs and what do you know the stupid thing would not under any circumstances recognize his mouse of all things , that's the last time I do that , I installed 7.10 for him , set it up and he loves it.

Like most others here , I'd rather set up my own.

I have tried both and am using Ultimate 1.6 now.
My first impressions of mint Celena were very good and i liked the Mintinstall. After I got the programs installed i wanted, then it was play time. I couldn't get any new cursors or borders running without crashing X.
Couldn't restore a backup either.
So i tried Fiesty and had no problems with X no matter how hard i tried to crash it. (Sorry will try harder next time i feel like reloading:lolflag:)

Then I found Ubuntu Ultimate and it has been very good to me.And that is my experience with the two.
I miss Mepis but 6.5 crashed way too much.

I'm an Ultimate Edition 1.6 user myself. It runs great and I have had zero troubles with it.

I use mint 3.0 a while and it's pretty good.

I like standadr ubuntu better.

A problem with cassandra I had was that most of the gnome-look themes wouldn't work well.

Installing the codecs take 1 min, maybe less.
