Ok I'm more then ready to put Ubuntu (Xubuntu) on my iBook, but I need to make sure I'm ready.
First off I'm doing this because I'm unable to upgrade to 10.4 with out spending a lot of money and can't up grade to 10.5.

So to start off, I'm pretty sure my iBook will work well but here is the config anyway.

iBook G3
800MHz
128Mb Ram
30GB Hard Drive
CD-Rom (Slot)
Airpot

Ok The next thing is I've heard there has been problems getting Airpost to work on Mac, so if it doesn't work will there be anything special I need to do?

And what version will be best for an install? (6.06, 6.10, etc. Alternative CD?)

Is there anything else I need be worried about?

Hi,

see the PPC FAQ (it's a sticky), there is information about G3s as well as Airport (i suppose 'Airpost' was a typo :) )

And what version will be best for an install? (6.06, 6.10, etc. Alternative CD?)

7.10 is usually buggy on PPC, i wouldn't recommend for a first experience
6.06 was a LTS officially supported by Canonical so it's more reliable but a bit old
7.04 is mostly considered the best for PPC - it has a few issues but solutions to common prolbems are usually known.

Is there anything else I need be worried about?

Just know the limitations of linux on PPC: no adobe flash (there's an open source replacement but honestly it doesn't work sufficiently if you need flash), limited open-source 3D drivers (though with API releasing specs to their cards that may change in the mid-term future). also, back-up everything first, as partitionning is always a bit risky (if you want to dual-boot, that is - 30 Gb may be a bit small to dual boot if you have lengthy data)

expect it will take a bit more time setting it all up than OS X (instead of spending money, you need to spend time) - but if you are well informed then there will be no bad surprise :)

good luck
