Desktop Setup

I was wondering if anyone here has ever used Damn Small Linux. I personally love the desktop setup that is present in DSL except for one thing... I hate window decorations... thus I always use EvilWM. What I was wondering is this: what programs does DSL use for its icons, and the dock app? Also, are those available from the normal apt-get repos that ubuntu comes with? (if not I will hunt if someone can give me the app names)

ALSO: if I remove Gnome will my system be screwed? What packages do I need to keep?
