View Full Version : Certificate of Authenticity SVG

A few years ago, there was a discussion about whether someone should design a Certificate of Authenticity for Ubuntu---a kind of mock of Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/<proprietary software here>'s.
I've done so (thanks to MasterCheese for the idea), and I bring you the certificate of authenticity:
http://i24.tinypic.com/rsbt7c.png (http://menza.org/upload/ubuntucert.svg)
(Click the image for a vector version).
The barcode matches the value of the key, which is the HEX value of "GNU/LINUX", but I had to add '01' to the end of the key for the number of figures to balance out.
It's released under the GNU GPL (http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html), so feel free to copy/edit/redistribute it under the terms listed in the license, and don't forget to leave comments!
Feel free to print it and stick it to your laptop, desktop, server, toaster, cat (etc).---bonus points if you include pictures.
Edit: Tiny edit, fixed some spacing issues between barcode and small Ubuntu logo.

Yay, it's nice to be able to contribute at least a little something to the community. Even if I didn't actually do it myself.

Brilliant!!! Made me laugh :D
You should look into getting them printed, and selling them; I remember a while ago a member of the forums, Jenda, manufactured some 'powered by Ubuntu' thumbnail stickers for computer cases and laptops - much like the Windows, Intel, and AMD stickers.
P.S. You should have stuck this in the cafe for more exposure ;)

Actually, I was the one who designed and produced the stickers---Jenda was merely the community distributor :). I've considered it, but I don't have the funds personally, so I'd need someone to do it for me *hinthint*

Really?!! Well - well done, they were fantastic! :) Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to fund the project, but it would be great if it could happen (I'd buy one :D)

Aye, I still have some contacts at the place I worked when I printed the ones for Jenda, so I guess I could ask what kind of price I'd get them at. Also, thanks :)

Weird, the svg is not displaying well in Firefox, seems to be a Firefox issue, looks nice in Inkscape. Thanks MenZa! BTW, Why don't you ask for an Ubuntu Marketing Team rank graphic (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=445211), you really deserve it!

Found this via digg. I thought it was neat, and I made a Kubuntu version, but I was originally making it for myself, so I didn't include the "*not actually required" bit. I then put it back, so it might not be in the exact same position. I will make more.
It looks like this, but the .svg has the "*not actually required":

lol, absolutely genius.
BTW, if one were so inclined to make these as stickers, they could just go out and buy some Avery lables, then download the printing templates from their website. Which is what I'm doing as soon as I get home!

Also. would it be possible to get a copy of the original ubuntu one without the "*" and the "*not really required"? I think they would look great without them...

Excellent job! Thank you!
Just few weeks ago encountered at office morons from tech department. They wondered how I can have my own machine at office without official windows license sticker. I told them that it's not running windows you twits.
They continued telling me that it's very serious that I have a computer at our office which doesn't have official license. - Yeah?
At that point I had to attach keyboard and monitor to my server. And showed them disk partitions. I told them again that there isn't even any trace of windows here, because this computer hasn't never ever been running any M$ operating system.
After that annoying meeting I decided that I have to clearly mark my boxes which aren't running M$ stuff. And this sticker ... is very excellent way to do it.
- Thanks!

Great job! I'm trying to find a local company that would make good quality stickers from those.

Great Job, How much would it take to fund the project, I am sure that the community would be responsive to a call for assistance, Donate 10 bucks or 5 even and it wouldn't be long. I'll keep an eye on this thread - I'll donate (Where to send)

Wooow. I just dumped on here for the first time in ages after looking at my old blog posts. It would seem that it's spawned tons and tons of derivatives, which is awesome. So awesome I'm deciding to drop all the rights for these and let them pop straight into the Public Domain (except the Ubuntu logo, which is still trademarked and owned by Canonical).
You guys rock; keep sharing the stickers, print them at will, modify them as you please and so forth. I'm ecstatic at what you've done, and I'd love to see more.
