In the same vein as my other post for adding metapackages for the missing Free Desktop Environments, I would like to raise the issue of adding a GNUstep-desktop/etoile-desktop metapackage.

It would be slick to have an insulated environment for both of these related environments.

Ideally you would end up typing in the terminal:
"sudo apt-get install gnustep-desktop" for a default GNUstep desktop, with it's own session management et al.

OR

"sudo apt-get install etoile-desktop" to get the version with the etoile project's enhancements/swapouts to the "default" GNUstep environment.

What does everyone think?

Adding options to Ubuntu only makes it better!

I (and a certain amount of psychological research) dispute this:
...
Adding options to Ubuntu only makes it better!
:).

However, this sounds like a fairly simple project, if you want to do it. Check out https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU, particularly https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment#NewPackages

Hey... I am still Shiny and NEW to both Ubuntu and GNU/Linux, so hey, I can say I see your point about being spartan.

That's primarily why I thought of modularity and the Metapackage idea...

Thanks so much for the links, I guess I should talk to the etoile, and GNUstep developers to recruit help.
