After ATI has provided the specifications of its GPUs to the open source community. Now they finally released fglrx8.42 (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=887) which has aiglx support and improves the whole performance of ATI graphics hardware.
For me fglrx was never something to even think about, because I'm using Radeon9000Pro with the RV 250 GPU, which has full 3d-support with the open ati-driver. But now I'm in doubt, if the free ati-driver gets all possible performance out of my old Radeon9000. I'd like to give it a shot, but unfortunately they only provide fglrx (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) for x86 and x86_64. What do you think, would it be worth the trouble to test it?
