View Full Version : System Info in Profile?

When you post a thread about an error you had or something else on these forums, most people know that you should give at least your processor type in order to help others to help you.

Wouldn't it simplify things if we could just enter this info into your profile, so that others could see it when you post (just like your ubuntu version)?

If this is already possible and this thread was pointless please tell me.

Otherwise, please give me your feedback on that idea

Many people put that information in their sig, but I agree, having it in your profile might make things easier, but that is a lot of information to display on a post.

Yeah, you got me there:), I forgot about that, but it would be more convenient. All we're talking about is the processor, graphics card, and maybe an 'other' section if there is anything else pertinent to what we would need help on. If anyone else has any suggestions on what other sections there should be (if they agree with the general idea), please post.

RAM is more important that the processor, for most technical issues on this forum.

A RAM and Graphics Card section, with a possible Processor value would be helpful.

I agree, I overlooked the RAM. Would the motherboard be important in help?

It depends on the issue, but all the problems I have encountered that I can remember, the most important info was:

RAM
Video
Computer Model

Sometimes, sound cards are important, but I don't answer those kind of questions.

It is most important for the poster to give the needed info when the question is asked.

Definitely would be good to have the graphics card in there. Especially if someone is having trouble with Compiz or something.

What about if I have 2 machines... or 3?

Oh and I just upgraded my hardware but didn't update my profile which is confusing you.

This has been suggested in this subforum before I think and the general consensus was that it would be best to keep it to the sig.

Yes this issue has been talked about twice from what I could find.

Hardware profile section within user profile? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=450523&highlight=hardware)

Hardware details in profile (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=405648&highlight=hardware)

Hmmm. Didn't think of that. Good point.
