Hi

i am very new to Linux world so do not know very much about how to use Linux. i found this website http://www.gnome-look.org/ through Google.com for downloading themes for Linux so i downloaded many themes but these files are in compress folder so extract them on my desktop later i try to install it from theme option from preference but it say invalid file.
how can i install these themes and desklets or splash screen in working directory.

You can unpack them to ~/.themes on a per-user basis or /usr/share/themes for a system-wide install. The error you're getting from the theme manager is probably due to trying to install the unpacked themes. If you want to install via the theme manager, it'll want the archives--no need to unpack.
