View Full Version : Gutsy, Compiz and 2 nVidia cards

I've just installed Gutsy and I use 3 monitors on 2 different nVidia cards (GeForce FX 5200 PCI and GeForce 6200 AGP). After playing around with the NVIDIA X Server Settings, I've come to some conclusions I would like verified and some questions.

First my own (unverified) conclusions:

- 2 monitors on 1 card can be TwinViewed (have to be? I couldn't get 3 X screens)
- a 3rd monitor cannot be TwinViewed, it'll need its own separate X screen.
- therefore, if you want to be able to drag windows from 1 X screen to the other, you'll need to enable Xinerama.
- Enabling Xinerama disables compiz, let alone compiz fusion. (got to this conclusion reading this topic (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=563809))

Now the questions that I have:

- Does Gutsy use Compiz or Compiz Fusion? Or maybe both, in the sense that choosing [Normal] in the Visual Effects settings is Compiz and [Extra] is Compiz Fusion?
- Is there any way to enable at least the core Compiz, cause I'd really like at least the Cube and the wobly windows.
- If not at the moment, I'm correct that I should be asking at the Compiz forum whether support for Xinerama set ups is anywhere on their road map, right? (e.g. not Ubuntu or Compiz Fusion)

Thanks in advance
