(Gnome 2.18.1, Desktop effect off)

When mnimizing window, the window leaves a trail of minimizing boxes, it gets worse when system is under load.
I find this quite annoying, I'd rather not see this.

Is it because of HW issue or system resource issue ?
Is there a way to configure whatever so the boxes don't show or display more "smoother"

thanks

I think this is the way gnome does it. you could get desktop effects running, if your system can cope. I don't know that it cant be done though.

man if that's really how Gnome behaves by default then it really sucks
I hope c-fusion fixes this - does anyone know if KDE is like this also ?

There's a way to disable that in gconf-editor but I can't remember now:(
You don't see those with Compiz though.

Yep they're default Metacity minimise animations.

You shouldn't see them with any other window manager.

There is a way to disable them but if I remember correctly it also disables something else but I can't remember what.
