[IDEA] Out-of-the-box Wi-Fi and USB detection

Wi-Fi for my Toshiba Satelite has been a pain(i.e it doesn't work no matter what), and the only reason its HD isn't partitioned yet.
Other than that, a GNOME daemon or something keeps on crapping out and I get something resembling a mutated Windows 2000 theme.
I heard that SUSE has some great Hardware detection... Perhaps we could take a look at some of that? (idk I'm just a kid).
