How to identify the symbols use in Forum?

As someone relativley new to the Forums I notice many symbols/graphics used in the listings, e.g. little envelopes, pages etc.

Is there a guide to these somewhere on the site? I've looked but not found anything yet - and I would like to know what they mean!

Also I have tried dragging smilies into messages but all I get is a URL. I guess all the younger people know how to do this but an oldie like me needs teaching!

The little envelopes are explained at the botton of the page, where you see the threads listed.

as for the smileys, [-X don't drag them. Just put the cursor (not the mouse pointer, the line which shows where you're typing) where you want the smiley and click on the smiley. :cool:

I think the dancing one still doesn't work though... \\:D/
