I'm hopeful that the next version will include both KDE and Gnome desktops with a choice to select which one, as well as a way to also select to add the features from Studio all on one DVD,

it would also be nice if you also added the packages to get wireless up and running from the DVD, drivers such as ndiswrapper and madwifi should already be on the DVD so you can connect when you're not directly connected or don't otherwise have access to the network.

Even better still a script disk that you can put on your computer that will detect all your equipment so you can download and then build the DVD/CD that you need to install everything specific to your own system. The scripted disk would of course need various network drivers so it could download the required parts as well as a way to create and burn an ISO file of those parts into a DVD/CD set to be burnt to the media as well as an option to burn it directly to media once it's created.

Better detection of RAID 5 volumes from the likes of nVidia RAID as well as the inclusion of ZFS would also be nice in the upcoming version of Ubuntu. This way one can use the RAID 5 on their motherboard to format it as such, even after the operating system has been installed. A better "Disk Manager" would also be nice.

The installation won't change, that is for sure. The devs want the install to be as quick and painless as possible.

Yeah, it's easy to install KDE through apt-get if you want to have multiple desktop GUIs. The main goal seems to be keep the install images small enough to fit on one CD...adding another windowing system makes that nearly impossible unless you want to give up a lot of really common apps.

Yes, really - keep it simple...
