I have a Latitude D610 With the Radeon X300 and have tried to activate the desktop effects and get the following error: The Composite extension is not available I am not sure what else to try, I have even gotten CompizFusion and it didn't help any at all.

I have a Dell Inspriron 6000 with a Radeon x300 graphics card. I had the same problems until I disabled the restricted ATI driver. Now compiz works perfectly. IDK if it will cause problems for video or games but I'm not using my computer for that right now.

I am running a Dell Inspiron 5150 and have been working to get Compize and Beryl to run on my laptop. How would I go about restricting ATI driver to allow it to work? Also curious as to how things have worked since.

Thanks! Great advice! (Completely illogical, but great none the less!)
Mine works perfectly now too. Radeon X800 XL
