Using 7.10 full release I've enabled and configured desktop effects without hitch. Problem is I cannot get window snapping to turn off even though I have disabled it under compiz manager. Any clues or ideas as to how to achieve this?
Thanks

Disable Wobbly Windows → General → Snap Inverted in ccsm.

I noticed the same problem. ALL newly opened applications snap to the upper left corner of the screen. In my case, when I hit maximize it only maximizes the window to 1280x800 (the max res of my laptop's monitor) instead of 1680x1050 the max res of the external monitor that I am using full time. The only solution I have found was to disable the desktop effects. I'm really bummed about this. I had compiz-fusion working great in feisty

TubaTodd I think you have the wrong idea as to what they are referring to as "snapping windows"
But for Nemi, you can confirm Forlong's answer. The Snapping Windows interferes with Wobbly Windows, and both are technically not allowed to run at the same time by the program. Both is set up to be enabled automatically though.

ok so just to make sure I'm not missing something - the 'snap inverted' (very poorly named) option turns off window snapping, but what I really want to do is have it not snap *most* of the time (so windows don't get stuck to things), but be able to hold down a key (say shift) and have that activate window snapping. It looks like "Snap Windows" under Actions should be where I configure this, butn I can't seem to get it to accept a key binding :(
Am I missing something?

This seems fairly intriguing.
I was trying to get rid of windows snapping all together, eventually found this thread and installed the advanced compiz settings manager, and set the options to disable snapping and it worked (all though it didn't seem to at first, it wasn't clear at what point he utility 'commits' the changes)
What I noticed is that the shift key had no effect when the snapping was on, but now snapping is off, the shift key enables it...

Ah, thank god...
It's incredibly annoying to have 2 "switches" for the same function!
Snapping windows make the effects look like they have epilepsy.. Windows who keep twitching all over the place, windows who don't want to move properly...
