eyecandy, how many cds, ... fine but...

PLEASE PLEASE 6 - better hardware support!!!
Ubuntu IS easy-to-use, has a great community and supporters, but why does the hardware compatibilty (in my personal case - Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop) gets worse with a major update, while other Linux distros get better?

Sorry, but as long as your OS does not support your hardware, ALL other features are worthless in my opinion. So hardware support should be definitly a much more important issue for Ubuntu (because not all of us want to by a Dell PC/laptop).

And yes, one of these nice techniques for boot speed up would be cool :-)

With so many points you want improved, why not simply use another distro. You may find that Suse or Mandriva suit you better.

1. see KDE im sure gnome has a close enough alternative to kpowersaved
2. generally to speed up boot speed you have to disable checks, and if you want a good stable system you shouldnt do that. i do however think the option of doing this would be cool
3. submit bugs, submit bugs
4.what? by definition forum fixes are unsuported, at best youd end up with a bunch of automaticx style hack (im not saying if thats good of bad just that the developers should actually fix stuff not hack stuff)
5. generally ive got specific errors for most of my problems, but if the developers new where the problems where theyd fix them not just give you a warning!
6. sure
7. why? surely if you want use 2 CDs you have to install it, unless your talking some sort of crazy 2livecd system!
8.big effort, this takes more than 1 release and isnt really ubuntus job better for upstream
9.try kde :P
10. not sure what you mean but sure
11. sure
12. sort of agree, i have 99% of what i want in kmenu but adding a command launcher would help some users (fortunately i just added a popdwon panel at the top of my screen with a command launcher xkill and ll apps id ever need 1 click access to)
13. have you tried kde (gnome users love thier gnome (not sure why think they might be zombies :P j/k) but xfce and kde users have kubuntu / xubuntu )
14. see 13
15. compiling a peice of software locally doesn't make it run faster, however offering more kernels would, unfortunately it'll never happen as ubuntu is based on stability not speed, you are however free to compile a bunch of ubuntu style kernels optimized for different systems and run a kernel repo
16. i thought there was a laptop metapackage all a laptop needs is power management other than that its a desktop,
