I need a photo browser that has the ability to show the contents of a folder, and its sub-folders, in thumbnail mode. On windows I used to use bridge, but I cannot find anything for linux with this ability. I don't need much more advanced functionality than that, even a file browser that can do this would be good enough. Any suggestions?
thank you!!

You can just use the Nautilus default file browser that comes with Ubuntu.
Just go to "View", and select "View as List" - this shows folders and thumbs. You can then change the default zoom level to get the thumbs bigger and Nautilus will remember the settings the next time you view that folder.

But will nautilus show the contents of folders recuresively? If for example folder A contains folders a,b and c, all of which contain photos, can I select A and view the pictures that are in its subfolders all together? This is the functionality that I need. I will play around with it some more, but so far I have not been able to accomplish this. Then again Im not exactly a linux guru, so I may just be missing something.

Just so you know, another option would be to open multiple file browser windows (just right click a folder and select "Open in New Window). You can open as many as you like, each showing a different folder. You can then drag and drop between the windows.

Yeah, thats what Im trying to get away from. I routinely go through terrible file systems that contain hundreds of photos from different amateur photographers. I used compupic pro with windows, but there really isnt anything like it available for linux that I have found. Now I know why. Ubuntu does pretty much what you need it to without having to hunt for (and pay for) a lot of extra software!
Thanks again!!
Next time I'll try not to think like a windows user!
