The files on the page you linked all appear to be standard *.h2drumkit files. To install them, navigate to View > Drumkit Manager and select the "Import" tab.

It worries me that the drum kits filesizes are under 100 megabytes and that there is reverb on one of the kits I downloaded and really awful quality on some others. Even though I understand it's created by general people without amazing equipment (and is very much good for free software), are there any created from samples of REALLY high quality audio from perhaps the internet from sources free to use? Or am I going to have to hunt them down and create my own kit and give it to the general GNU community?

If you make a free account at http://www.freesound.org/ , you can search through their whole database of practically every instrument. Quite nice.

Then, once you find what you want, you can load it into each instrument in Hydrogen, and save it as a kit.
