My Ideas For Ubuntu 8.4 Hardy Heron are:
Gnome Control Center Replaces System>Preferences Menu.
New Default Theme, The Default Brown and Orange Theme Just Doesn't Work, Try another shade of orange and brown.
New Layout For Add/Remove Programs.
Possibly New Upper And Lower Panels?
A Time Tracker Installed By Default Like Ktimetracker But One For Gnome.
And More MAN Pages in Bash Because I Keep Finding Apps Without Man Pages By DefaultIf I'm Need For Any Development Or Anything I Would Love To Help.

I would say GNOME Control Center wouldn't be a good default until things are actually implemented into it (ie: tools are actually part of Control Center).

The theme will never change, it is what makes Ubuntu Ubuntu. Besides, those are UbuntuStudio colors, and Ubuntu ISN'T UbuntuStudio

What do you mean by "new layout"? Elaborate more.

Also, elaborate on what you mean by new upper/lower panels.

Tracker is installed by default, in the form of deskbar.

Ubuntu is for newbs, and I wouldn't place the terminal high on my priority list.

I'd be interested in seeing a tool that improves audio support. Most of the problems I see surround audio support, getting your sound card working (or on board audio, or both), etc.

I don't mind the browns, but I read somewhere black and orange. Please, not glossy black and orange. Stick with Ubuntus colors and people can change it if they like.

those all just need your own customization ....it based on your creatively ...those all looks good in your opinion...other may suggest to customize like what their like too...

The theme will never change, it is what makes Ubuntu Ubuntu. Besides, those are UbuntuStudio colors, and Ubuntu ISN'T UbuntuStudiowell the actual theme is ok but at least a new default desktop background and login screen would be nice
What do you mean by "new layout"? Elaborate more. like instead of the description having its own box why not make it to were you click the program and the description come down under the program. and also make another sort of terminal apps so the beginners won't install something they don't know how to use.
Also, elaborate on what you mean by new upper/lower panels.
the default color being something other than gray and the menus having something like the start menu in windows by using pictures rather than text.
Tracker is installed by default, in the form of deskbar.
i don't want a applet i want a app.
Ubuntu is for newbs, and I wouldn't place the terminal high on my priority list. I guess your right.

No cold colours dude, brown aint pretty, but its warmer than blue (yuk).

Orange burns my eyes when its bright.

A dark deep orange would be cool with black and burgandy rather than brown.

ya i agree but everyone says that the brown theme is what makes ubuntu ubuntu.
maybe they could at least change the default login screen and default background.

They will be changed. But don't even dare to have something different from the current baby poo.

the baby poo is ugly so they should at least change the shade like the shade change from feisty to gusty.

i agree with you.
another thing i want in 8.4 is a better distro upgrade program because i spent a hours download a alternate cd to find out that old sys config file messed up my entire computer so i just wiped the hard drive and started over.

It would be the packaging that was faulty if you couldn't upgrade.

the network upgrade was going like 400bs because of how many people were upgrade. my upgrade was off of the alternate and i md5summed and did the disk check and it said it was ok so i upgraded and everything was messed up so i did a clean install and its working fine.:)

Did you start upgrading, stop, and then start again on the alternate cd?

nope started (i had working internet if that could have anything to to with it) the upgrade and waited and watch the terminal and the only problem i seen was it kept saying: gnome could not be started, do you have (i don't remember what the package was) installed?but other then that it went perfectly.
but it doesn't matter now because i have got everything working and i didn't have anything impotent on the old system anyway.

Fix the lousy gnome-panel!

I'm sick to death of it making the desktop look like a 5 year old slapped the desktop together with a plastic hammer and crayons!

You can't change fonts, font colours, font sizes, icon sizes (which are all the same size, makes it look clunky) etc', and a lot of apps have background problems with anything other than the default "system theme" background.

Not to mention those bloody annoying "handles" that cannot be removed!

And NO I am not referring to the "hide" arrows! Deselect "Expand" to see what I mean.

Yes you can hack some of those if you are using a gtk2 compliant theme, but why does it need to be so hard?

And the extremely annoying 5 second delay when opening the main menu whenever you use the "Main Menu" rather than the "Menu Bar" option.

Try it, remove the menu bar, add a main menu, then reboot and see how long it takes!

Some of us still have smaller screens, especially on laptops, and screen space is limited, one quarter of the panel is taken up by the menu bar, and a lot more is eaten up by the "clock".

These points have been problems since the very first gnome, and the gnome-devs refuse to fix them.

yes i think the panels could use a new color but nothing fancy. to remove a panel right-click on a panel and click delete panel ands its gone. if you don't like gnome then get Ubuntu, which has KDE.

@Time Tracker.
Right. I think that by "time tracker" he meant something by the lines of gtimelog, not Meta Tracker. A very useful productivity application by itself, but current Gnome-ish variants are somewhat under featured.

Oh, and I, for one, like browns, only more "dark chocolate" brown, less "molten ligh milk chocolate equivalent".

i found a time tracker in Evolution that suites my needs.
