Well security wise this might be a stepdown but I would like Optional!! (not default installed) remote support features.
I'm turning more and more friends over to Ubuntu, the problem is that sometimes they need help and I can't get to them to see their screen or type in stuff to see the feedback, this often makes for a frustrating attempt over the phone to figure out the problem, often small problems.
What would be great would be a remote view of the other persons desktop with a chat window and some controll.
LIke this:
Person 1 needs help
Person 2 can help
Person 1 initiates the remote support option (server)
Person 2 initiates the remote support option (client)
Person 1 sets one of three levels of access for client side
1. No access just grafic view of the screen and chat
2. User access
3. Root access for more advanced problems
Person 1 (server side) initiates the connection to Person 2 (client side - passive) (making it the server that inits this = lower risk of exploite)
Person 2 now gets the access that is set and a view of person 1's desktop with interactive capabilities like moving the mouse ect.
This would make supporting your friends or helping a newbie out from the forum much simpler when you can see the problem and see the output ect.
Also the newbie sees what you do and learns a thing or two and you can guide them and so on, sure not all problems can be fixed with this but many of the normal problems can.
And when it comes to help via the forum you could just add something like a rating system that adds a rating on the persons forum profile or something eliminating more risk of miss use, also a panic button like ctrl-c that instant kills the connection between server and client.
I know this is a BIG project but really think it would help Ubuntu alot
