 Yey!
UT3 is almost here, the windows demo is out & awesome (although i'm gonna need a cpu upgrade to max the settings out).
I'm really gutted that the linux installer has been pulled from the disc at the last minute and will now be available for download 'in the near future'. They've said that by the time the game releases they should have finished the linux installer and made it available online, but imo: that sucks! I wanted to buy the collectors edition and have the installer already there. Plus in 5 years time when I wanna play a bit of UT3 (and trust me i will! i love playing my old games) i don't have to go fishing online for an installer!!!
I've also heard that the performance on linux won't be as good as windows :(
Having said all that the game so far, looks amazing- and I'm still REALLY happy there will be a native linux version even if we may have to wait a bit for it!
What do you guys think?

Well, I already made my decision and went with quake wars. Of course, if that doesnt work out, I can always pick up ut3 as well. It looks like a great game though, and I loved ut2004. Im a little worried about the system specs though, looks like it takes a pretty good rig to run it right.
Good time for linux gaming though.

Source?
I've seen so many UT3 sites recently I can't find the one where they were discussing it. Although this isn't directly UT3 related there are various articles here benchmarking graphics cards on windows vs Linux and windows always comes up trumps :( :

I also heard that windows may not support openGL and just the max & linux version will?

It scales down really well so you can run this game on a really rubbish computer! it just looks pretty awful on a low spec machine, you'll still get good fps though. I have 1.5ghz AMD7, and nvidia 7800 and its playable, I really want to get myself a dual/quad core processor & new PCI-Express card!!!

I have a 1.9GHz AMD AM2 Athlon 64 X2 and a nvidia 7900 and it runs perfectly on full settings in the demo for me. I'm using 1280x1024. I hear that the full game will have a higher setting that the ones included in the demo though.

Then you can stop being excited... unlike UT2K3/2k4, there will be no Linux client in the box, at least not for the first release:
http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=580360
Hardly surprising. We haven't even gotten a Linux demo yet and the game's been gold for a while.
EDIT: I'm such a party pooper. :)

Another reliable source for specific things to the UT3 client is at icculus UT3 maillist (http://icculus.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm/ezmlm-cgi?64:iis:0:200711#b).

A beta demo is unlikely - but the "ordinary" demo will be out (no specific date given)

The standard demo will be released after the retail version.
I m eagerly awaiting the retail as i have pre orderd the collectors edition.
The linux installer will be realeased after the retail hits the stores *thats if they find the time to do so*
But from what i have seen of the beta its awesome and cant wait to see what mods come out for it ... I was thinking of learning how to code for it and see if i can throw together a semi desent rpg mod for it and im not talking about mysterios one either im talking about full on diablo/dungeon siege type rpg. It souldnt be too hard to have large maps to play on as UE3 allows loading on the fly.

Dude! I was thinking the exact same thing! Though I refuse to do anything in the U3 engine unless there is a linux native editor.
If you're really serious, let's PM bomb eachother.

they have announced that they will try to bring linux native versions of the editor out but like the installer its a question of when and if they have the time.

Wow how lame i was just going down to my local electronic chain store to pick up a copy of the game.
Decided to look here and at the official site to see if the linux client was shipped in the box like the previous version when it first launched.
None, i am a bit miffed its not like the game dvd was full and there was no room for the client.
I'll wait for the after thanksgiving or after christmas sale to pick this up once i know theres a linux client available.

Guys, there's some bad news regarding the client... read the mini-interview here (http://www.linuxhardware.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/21/0433201&mode=thread).
Seems that we're gonna wait for a while. Oh, and we can give up on hoping for a GoW port too.

Well well anything to sell Vista.
what a shame and a mess.
This was THE FPS i was looking forward to for the year.
Even Beefed up my old clunker of a PC to be within moderate specs to play it.
Wasn't too much of a GoW fan but thats a shame too.

Rather disappointing news... More voting with the wallet then I guess, it'll stay closed until a Linux client is out.

Well, I'm just glad I read about the delay of the Linux client for Unreal Tournament 3. I had already ordered it earlier today, but cancelled my order a couple of hours ago and bought Enemy Territory instead (and it already shipped). At least they have a Linux client readily available on ID Software's site. If and when Epic manages to fix their UT3 Linux client issue, I may look into it again, if I'm still interested then. Fairly disappointing experience there.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but UT3 was never ported to linux after all, it just kinda went flat and died.
