Mac OXS has 3-D Chess included.
Windows Vista has 3-D Chess included.

Why doesn't Ubuntu do the same? I say this tongue in cheek, but in this day and age, how can an operating system be taken seriously without a decent 3-D Chess game included? :)

Edit: I'm aware a Chess game is included. But with more 3-D effects in Gutsy, it may be time to include a Chess game that can be played in 2d or 3d depending on supported hardware.

Uhhh, I remember I had one in Windows 95, but I had to access to it through DOS!! I hadn't seen one since. Now you made me need one...

you just have to install opengl python bindings and gtkglext python bindings and you are good to go with 3d chess!

It looks 3D to me.
You have to change the View to 3D first.

Both Dream Chess and Brutal Chess are too big for my computer to handle! They run soooooo slooooow. Granted, it's an integrated, 64 (128?) Meg Intel Graphics card, but this is the 21st century! And it's chess :-P

Runs fine on my integrated 32meg ati radeon 7500.

I'd say your drivers are iffy.

Wow! I knew Intel drivers were considered poor, but this means my card is performing at less than half its actual capacity!!! That's totally unacceptable. I'm actually a little upset!

I'm using open-source drivers, not the ati ones.. with those, I can't even have Compiz working. While the oss ones handle compiz just fine. Yay
