it seems that my Gutsy installations are using about twice as much ram doing the same tasks as Feisty did. Any thoughts on where to start looking? I don't know why I care, i have 4GB in this machine, and 2GB in the laptop.

Get rid of Deskbar. Takes up like 20MB :o
Unless you use it of course.

It is probably tracker and releated apps and maybe compiz-fusion.

I removed that from Sessions, and killed the bluetooth service, and a few other little things. It's still using a lot. Firefox seems to use a lot more memory than i remember in Feisty.

Here's my system monitor screenshot, there is only 1 item below this (ssh-agent) that uses 0KB. Nothing out of the ordinary looks to be running. Maybe I need to throw Feisty on another system and see what it says. My laptop and home machine do the same thing, and have the same configuration.
Under Sessions, what are the following?
* User Folders Update
* Visual
