Workspaces only work on row 1 ?

Does anybody know how to fix this? As i prefer 2 / 2 workspaces as they take up less room.. :(

If I understand correctly what you are asking about:

Right click in the workspaces area on the menu bar . . .
Preferences. . .
Select '2' rows (or as many as you like)

On my machine this seems to work fine, e.g. 4 workspaces in 2 rows makes a square, 4 workspaces in 1 row makes you guessed it, 4 in a row.
