In my honest opinion I had thought that Edgy was the best Ubuntu version as it was good enough for people who are not familiar with Linux to operate, survive and surpass. :D

Feisty was great but a few problems after I upgraded such as sound and a few driver issues
but my new install of Gusty has been perfect. Everything worked out of the box and I used to alternative install to encrypt my partition. I haven't even noticed the difference yet besides entering a password at boot.

I especially love the new graphical touches that actually work with my ATI laptop card. Not to rough on the resources either.

You guys have knocked this out of the park. Congrats!

It works flawlessly here since beta... Can't wait for Hardy Heron to be even better and simpler to use ;)

Well, just 6 months to wait ;)

Working fine on my acer laptop. :)

@bigken, i see you have AptonCd in your sig, that program is fantastic, saves a lot of bother trying to find all the programs i have downloaded when something goes wrong.

I have never had a single install problem with Ubuntu on my main computer (some old HP one that I've tinkered with) & Gutsy is no exception. Add to that all the things that have been added or upgraded & you will find I am a very happy lad.

@bigken : Yes, everyone should use it, take a bit of pressure off the servers and save bandwidth for other things.

Yeah I love Gutsy too. But I understand the frustration of people who now have troubles because I had it once too (none of the Ubuntu distro's between 5.10 and 7.10 have worked on my laptop without serious issues).

BTW that APTonCD is looking really cool, I bookmarked it right away, and I'll probably use it too when there's a stable release!

Have you ever worked on your machine and it is perfect and you don't want to change a thing but you know eventually you will screw it up. That's how I feel right now. Everything graphics, sound, drivers, plugins working perfectly. I need to back this puppy up for posterity. Time to look for the acronis boot cd.

I am looking at doing a system reinstall to 7.10 RC today and then just updating the packages to the final version tomorrow or the next day.

I tried out 7.10 in a VMWare to see what differences were in it and such.

I have to say that I'm kind of worried about the restricted drivers. For 7.04 I just uninstalled everything that was restricted and installed my nvidia drivers without issue, will I still be able to do that with 7.10 and have everything work out of the box?

Also, I can't seem to locate any posts on what procedure(s) to take for upgrading from RC7.10 to final 7.10. Any ideas for me?

Upgrade will happen seemlessly if you do the updates when available through Update-Manager.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I just wanted confirmation.

Now what about the restricted drivers or should I find a different section of the forum for that question?

The only problem I had was I tried the nvidia-glx-new driver, problems, I did a lot of research and found out that for my card (7300) there was a regressive bug in 100.14.19and 100.14.11. It took me a whole day, (and I don't remember every thing I did), basically used ENVY to uninstall nvidia drivers, got fresh copies of kernel, and installed nvidia-glx (9639). It was been over a week and it is absolutely great. CF works, I have the latest Google Earth beta (4.2) games like Wesnoth, Enemy Territory (without having to stop/start CF) working.
I read here in the forums and on IRC people having problems, I try and help, but it seems like everyones machine is slightly different, and what is working for me, might not help them, I only hope they don't give up.

Thanks for the reply Rick. I just loaded up gutsy and removed everything with restricted and nvidia in the name. Going to download the nvidia drivers from their site and let you guys know how it goes. This worked fine in 7.04, so hopefully I'm good in 7.10.

I see you have an 8800, so 1001.14.19 is not a problem

Yeah, its working well. I don't know what it is, but anything with restricted in the name just doesn't sit well with me.

btw, its working well, GLXGears at about 15k for 5 straight runs.

I just did a clean install yesterday. I've got the nvidia 5200 card and had major issue getting everything to work in Feisty. I've had no issues at all with Gutsy. Everything installed perfectly. Course some user issues gave me a bit of concern! :)

Dell D600 laptop here.

Wired Internet -- works fine
Wireless - works fine but had to struggle last week with the Broadcom driver issue (price I pay for upgrading early, I guess)
Scanner --works great-- and has been temperamental in every other release unless I used VueScan (3rd party nonfree software)
Printer -- works fine
OpenOffice -- works fine, no crashes as some have reported
Compiz/3D Eyecandy -- works fine, looks great
Suspend/Hibernate -- don't resume properly (black screen)--rumor is that ATI is working on a fix for the driver causing the problem

Overall grade: A-.
