No matter what I try I can't get some, well most DVDs to play
I have Ubuntu restricted extras and all the ones I think I need from looking around but nothing.
Any clues on fixing this ?
Thanks

Are you using totem-xine or totem-gstreamer? Have you tried VLC?

If you have the right to do so - not living in USA - install lidvdcss.

totem-gstreamer is not a good choice for playing DVDs because gstreamer can't handle dvd menus...longstanding issue. If you already have libdvdcss2 and libdvdread then you can install totem-xine and libxine1-ffmpeg and any dependencies then Totem becomes a very nice player.
