System: Gutsy Gibbon RC, Gnome 2.20.0, updated and patched to the bleeding edge.

You know, the kind that when you right-click on your desktop, the F in "Create Folder" has an underline on it :D

Is this even possible? Or do I have to go replacing Compiz with another window manager? Although it's a small thing, it's kinda bit annoying to me to look at :D
Thanks in advance!

This thread had no replies too...so I'm wondering...

Were you aware that this is not a bug, it's a useful feature? The underlined letter gives you the keyboard shortcut. In the example you give, pressing 'f' creates the folder. It avoids having to move and click the mouse.

But if you did know this, sorry but I don't know how to disable it. I thought I'd point this out because the wording of your post suggests that you weren't aware of this feature. I would imagine most people would want to keep it.

Yes, I'm aware it is a feature, but I'm looking for simple way to turn this on or off.

I think you can't. I think it is hardcoded in every single application.

Or am I wrong ?

I did a search for mnemonics and was not able to come up with a solution to turn them off. There may be a way to do this in a different desktop environment, or there may be an option in gconf. If you do find a solution, post it back here so others may learn how to do this.

Personally, I don't see why anyone would want to turn this off. That's just me though.

if its anywhere its in the configuration editor, you have to make it visable by right clicking your 'applications' button and edit buttons, then under system tools it should be the first entry. Tons of stuff in there so happy hunting.

I think all the underline are hardcoded because when you see at translation (not everyone have english as mother tongue), underline are available for translation lines.
