Well got another gripe, well two but they are related with Gutsy as it stands atm.
I get this when I do a apt-get dist-upgrade:

The following packages have been kept back: compiz-core, compiz-dev, compiz-kde, compiz-plugins, libvips-tools, nip2

Then:

Processing triggers for libc6

Loooooooooooooong wait.

processes other files, then:

Processing triggers for libc6

again with the long wait.

argh! Now I dont know exactly why thoughs packages refuse to upgrade, it might be that my cruddy videocard (the geforce4 that isnt really, but a souped up geforce2, geforce4mx) has been blacklisted, or it might be something else, I'm hoping it's resolved by release that either A: I can upgrade my existing software, or B: it won't work on my computer anymore so I can take it out. Because having it check every time, and the huge amount of time it adds to the upgrade process, well its just a bit much.

Oh on a side note, how do I disable that bloody file indexing thing, it really eats up resources as my server sends me a good amount of data each day, and I truly don't need it indexed I know where it all go's, so it's just wasting processor cycles.

packages are held back when dependency's are unmet or it requires further user input.

in all likely hood yours is a dependency problem, you should use synaptic to get a better look, just click each package and mark for upgrade and see what it wants to pull in or change.

It does that because that is how it knows if you have updates. If you get rid of that, then you won't have any updates.

Compiz was just odd, gave me a breakage message saying it needed a file with exact same version number as was installed, so i forced it to reinstall, now it works, that's just weird.

Thanks for the heads up with vips that pretty much every day to view images from the microscope so that not upgrading was kind of bumming me out.

Hopefull upgrade process will speed up now that there aren't halfway done things hanging about.

Guess I need to spend more time using the graphical tools for upgrading and less just doing apt-get dist-upgrade, old habits :(
