More choice... why not.
But would probably lead to even more noobs thinking 'if it looks like windows it has to work like windows, or it is bad'

When I see things like this I think of my father, who is capable of damaging his OS in ways I never would have thought of on my own. "What do you mean I can'lt delete all these *.dll files? I don't use them. I didn't even put them there??"
So...it would be a comfortable (familiar) way to make his system more secure and safe from both outside attacks (viruses, etc) as well as from himself. That would be good.
Bad side: I would have to do all his tech support. This would be for someone who thought migrating from Win98 to WinXP when he bought a new computer was REALLY HARD. No..l think I will let him continue as he is, not happy but safely in the hands of the local shop for support rather than me by long distance...let him yell at someone else.
Okay, my post is turning into a rant against my dad instead of being on topic, so ignore the ranting and take the useful thoughts with a huge grain of salt.

No way. Some idiot will think it's Windows and try to install Windows apps on it. And if they need so much handholding that it has to look exactly like Windows, then they're better off staying on Windows rather than making one of our lives miserable with questions like "Well, why won't MS Office install? It looks just like Windows, it should work just like Windows!"
Too many cans of smelly worms. No thanks. XFCE and GNOME are wonderful clean environments, and KDE is a nice, eye-candyful Windows workalike that looks different enough to remind the user that they're NOT using a Microsoft OS, but has that same nice, comfortable bloated feeling like XP :)
