gecko wine steam problem

I am having trouble with gecko on wine with steam. When it brings up the box asking if I want to install it I can't click install because the whole thing frezzes up. Here are the things I've tried. I've tried the wine tricks from (http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks) and ran "sh winetricks gecko". Then I got mozcontrol and ran "wine regsvr32 mozctlx.dll" and it still didn't work. Please help. ](*,)

Click on the "Stuff I've learned about Wine" link in my sig and go to the "Special configuration stuff" section. The correct way to manually install the Gecko engine is listed there (under "ALTERNATE INSTRUCTIONS").

I've just had the same problem.

I was prompted to install Gecko during the Steam install but the installation failed.

I then went to Applications>Wine>Programs>Steam and Clicked on Steam Support Center. I got the same dialogue box about installing Gecko, accepted and Gecko was downloaded and installed without a problem.

I could then enter my Steam username and password without problem in Steam.

Downloading HL2 now to see how it runs in Ubuntu.

Yeah, the site is currently down, but the original doc is still available as a sticky at the top of the Wine subforum here. There haven't been many changes made since I originally posted that and any glaring errors in the original doc have still been corrected or removed.
