I know that there are applications to make and read tablets; however, I'm JUST starting to learn that guitar and was wondering if there was any programs for linux or windows under wine, that are really good for learning frets and all the beginner hassles.

The basic answer is no!

There are programs that help you improve but I think you need at the very minimum most of the open chords mastered and ability to change between them. In my experience most programs are plan useless and nothing beats just playing by your self and a good book.

I would stick to using websites for now:

http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/forum/
http://www.12bar.de/
Google Chordie
Google Jamorama (you pay for the course but its great value)

While you are learning you MUST record yourself so you can measure improvement. You can use Audacity initially or Jokosher.

A great way to jam is to use one of the looper programs. Play a chord progression and improvise over the top.

Good luck with the guitar!:guitar:

AFAIK, there isn't any apps for learning guitar.

I can recommend this website that runs all on Linux:

http://www.chordbook.com/

Enjoy!

I have been playing for about 7 years now. if i can make one suggestion to you. Go to your nearest music shop and buy the books that include a free CD or DVD like Rock Guitar Basics. Or Blues Guitar Basic. These books will give you most of the information that you need in regards to scales chords technique and style to get your self going into a brilliant guitarist hobby. but remember one thing there is no substitute for practice. When i say practice i mean between 2 - 4 hours a day. One more tip that I got from Eric Clapton. If the strings get to your fingers in a painful way... Dip your finger tips in surgical spirits before you play :P

Good luck
