View Full Version : Ubuntu live cd Convertion

hi ..

i accidently downloaded the Ubuntu Live cd instead of the installable version ... can the live cd be used to to get everything installed ? i mean can i use it as a installer cd or do i need to download the whole 600MB again ?

This is something that they're working on, though, right?

The mirrors show a live/install DVD that does both--but it's huge. Eventually we'll be headed toward Knoppix-style installs, I hope.

Not that I know of. AFAIK The DVD contains both versions and the extras cd. Not sure if it contains anything else.

cant we like cp the whole contents of the live cd on hdd .. make some kinda changes and burn the newone and use it ? has anyone tried anything like that ?

Yes, there are people working on it, it is called Ubuntu Express installer. It will basically copy the contents of the cd to your harddrive and do a little configuring afterwards. But it is not sure yet if it will make it in time for breezy...

In the mean time the dvd is an excellent option, which has both the installer, the live cd and all of the packages from main on one disc.
