"desktop effects could not be enabled" with an X1550

Just installed gutsy, after getting my WPN111 to work first try (i nearly cried) I installed my graphics card (an X1550).

Being nicely shallow I went to enable the desktop effects and got the message about the composite not being enabled which I fixed in the x11.conf file.

However now when I go to enable the desktop effects after about 4 seconds of flickering a message pops up "desktop effects could not be enabled"

Any ideas?

The next release of the next ati driver should support aiglx with your video card. It should be out sometime this month.
