As of Oct 13, compiz removes the top of all open windows. Do I need to pass some specific parameters to my xorg.conf file?

Do you mean the border/title bar. If that's the case compiz will most likely just be having a problem with the metacity window decorator. Have you tried installing emerald to use instead? That generally works well with compiz, beryl & compiz fusion.

No, emerald does not work better, otherwise we'd probably use it. :) Sounds like you didn't use restricted-manager to setup your nvidia driver. Try this:sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals

Indeed. Smells like an install by hand of the driver. Restricted manager handle this automatically.
