I compiled 2.6.23 it boots up fine but my wifi and audio do not work. My guess it's because I don't have the restricted modules the regular kernels of gutsy have.

I made sure i checked the wifi options when I configured the kernel. But don't remember touching anything as far as sound options so that could be my prob with the sound.

So can restricted modules be compiled for 2.6.23???

I even tried a pre compiled kernel deb by a member of this forum and got the same issue.

I think should be better wait a little more time for Devs working on ALSA 1.4 modules being compliant with pulseaudio server and developing a consistent and stable wireless networking/sound environment on Gutsy.

What does that have to do with 2.6.23? We need a new kernel release.

When i have this type of problems, i create symlinks to the existing restricted modules....
You can create links that "points" to your working restricted modules of the prior version of the kernel..

Note: This is note really clean but it works. Just be careful to backup all of your files and read this carefully.
In my case, i used my restricted modules of a kernel 2.4.20 on a kernel 2.6.11
