So, which one do you use? Avant? Kiba-Dock? Others?
May want to mention if KDE or GNOME, as I use Gnome currently.

AWN, have tried kiba-dock but found it troublesome i lose the launchers sometimes. AWN is good, development has been very active and its working fine.
my vote: AWN

I use AWN with Gnome. It works great on my Sony Vaio laptop, but I have two desktops that I can't use it on. One is an older P3 system and the other is an AMD 1800+. On both systems I get a large black bar across the bottom of the screen when I open AWN.
If I didn't have such success with my laptop, I would probably have deleted it and never bothered to try again.

I use AWN on Gnome on my corporate laptop.
if you have a black bar across the screen on your desktop machines - are you sure you have a compositing desktop manager running? (i.e. Beryl or Compiz or others). That black bar across the bottom of the screen will def happen if you are not running something like Beryl or compiz.

Kiba-dock. Latest version is working smoothly with CF and ATI 9200.

SimDock, as it is the only dock i can find which doesnt need compositing and still does nice fancy effects.

7 months ago I tried AWN and wasn't too impressed. But AWN is evolving so fast that right now it's my favorite dock. The current speed of development is just insane!
Especially the recently improved hover effects are very nice.
Running feisty / gnome / compiz fusion

I'm on a Dell E1505 dual core with ATI Radeon Mobile X1300 with only 128mb of video ram...
I really like AWN. I upgraded to Gutsy RC last night and am now using it with Compiz-Fusion + XGL on Gnome. I do wish there were more customizations though and that it had more working applets. I've attached a screenshot.
(Kiba looks fun but I never could get it up and running. That was a couple months ago. Maybe it's been further developed???)

I use Awn on the bottom of my desktop and Cairo-Dock on top.

I've tried a couple of docks so far (Kiba and AWN) both on my Ubuntu Feisty Desktop and my Xubuntu Feisty laptop.
Although I am glad to hear that both are developing quickly, I have had minor irritations with both.
Eg On Ubuntu with AWN, when I flick to another desktop, AWN disappears
Eg On Xubuntu with Kiba, I cannot create launchers, the only items on my dock are the open tasks/windows
I would love to see a dock (AWN perhaps, given its popularity in this poll and its development activity??) either included into or easily added to the default Ubuntu lineup, since the 'Eye Candy' factor would seem to be a potentially major selling point for those moving from other OSs. For that matter, while I can see the reasoning behind keeping the earthy Ubuntu 'human' colour scheme, there is nothing stopping us from having awesome window/desktop options available as default choices!
When do you think a dock is likely to enter the mainstream for Ubuntu?

I use kiba-dock. I just love it, the physics effects and all...
Besides, I use XFCE, and I didn't have to install any Gnome dependencies.

Preferences>AWN manager "auto hide" works for me.

These polls make me feel so alone for being a Kiba user :(

I use Kiba. I tried AWN but it never worked for me. Maybe its because I'm using Ubuntu 7.10. Both seem good. I enjoy Kiba.
Edit: Tried AWN and got it working. It definitely is better than Kiba Dock in all but one aspect. AWN lacks the cool "Physics"feature in Kida that let's you play with the icons on the dock. Though its not useful, it is cool when showing off Ubuntu in class

I used AWN for a long time and had a few issues with it then switched over to Kiba, and I just now started having problems with launchers disappearing so I'm gonna check out AWN again and see what happens..

I spent three days trying to get Kiba working properly with help from this forum, the kiba-dock forum, and linuxquestions.org forum, and I am now giving up. Was debating whether to try AWN or Cairo next, but AWN is looking good from this thread among others.
