View Full Version : Making Google Look Better in Firefox

Hi,

I'm currently using Gutsy Gibbon but have noticed this in all versions of Ubuntu so far.

I've switched to SubPixel rendering for my fonts and for the most part they look great.

One exception is in Firefox, using Google. It seems to be using some sort of monospace font, and I can't change it. I prefer MuktiNarrow, and I've changed all my font settings in Appearance dialog, as well as the font preferences in Firefox to this font, to no avail.

This affects all Google services: Google, Gmail, Google Reader, etc. I don't think it's a fixed Google font, as the font looks normal in Windows.

I've attached a screenshot for reference. Any help?

Figured it out!

Have to go to Edit->Preferences, then click "Advanced" under fonts and change the "Sans Serif" font which Google and a lot of other sites use as their default.

Anyway, here's what it looks like now. A bit better I think - but let me know if you think otherwise. I really like Mukti Narrow for some reason!

That is a nice looking font! I'm going to start using that for my default firefox font too. Thanks!

The font settings for that Google page, as on your first screenshot, "font-family: arial, sans-serif", so your problem maybe lied in the absence of arial (which is Windows font), and bad substitution for sans-serif. Install Arial (somewhere in the posts should be a kind of How-to about Windows basic fonts installation). The substitution for sans-serif you have already fixed :)

Looks like Tahoma. I like Tahoma. But this may be my new font. I dunno.
