To install pidgin(for ubuntu open week) in windows I first installed gtk+ runtime environment(not knowing what it is and what it does. I searched with google but the results are completely unreadable to me).

Then, after installing pidgin(and aspell...) i installed GIMP.

So is that what gtk+(for IT tourists like me) used for. To install open source linux applications?

Will Gtk installation have a direct effect on my computer(graphics, environment,...)?

What does gtk+ theme selector do??Or can do if....

I have not installed any .NET or mono

Pidgin and gimp seems to work fine.

GTK+ is the library which provides all of the buttons, checkboxes, tabs, menus, scrollbars, et cetera for the programs. It draws the graphics and monitors the mouse and keyboard, sending messages to the program when certain events happen (for example, if a user clicks on an OK button).

gtk should be working by itself , it will not touch other settings in your win box
