Hi,
In the process of setting up mythbuntu as a backend on my server I tried to install the proprietary codecs, specifically w32codecs within the mythbuntu setup.
Unfortunately it took me a while to clue to the face that the reason these would not work is that I run AMD64. The easy fix was to install the w64codecs manually, but would be nice if mythbuntu either called up the w64 version directly or gave an error message.
