It looks like the Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 mainboard I had been intending to buy has dissappeared off the stock lists of NewEgg, ClubIt and just about everywhere else I've been looking...
Can anybody recommend me a good board for an Intel Q6600 and DDR2 RAM?
Oh, and I'll be in the market for a new video card, too... mostly for Flight Gear!
Beef.

Have a look at my system. I am happy with it. But it all depends what you want to do with your box and what your budget is.
I am running Feisty 32 bit and Gutsy 64 bit on it like a charm. CentOS 5 with a little bit tweaking install fine as well.
No experience with fancy graphic cards as I need this box for work.

Intel and ASUS mainboards have good support for Linux, ASUS even have people in tech support specifically to handle Linux problems with drivers etc..

If you know which mainboard you want put the name and 'linux' into google. If lots and lots of trouble messages come up - forget it.
You can go here http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Main_Page
but this site is more down than up.

So I looked around at a few review sites, notable Phoronix, for information about P35 chipset mainboards, and ordered a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128067)
I didn't order a video card at the same time, though...
I'm a little confused, because I expected a GeForce 8800 with 512MB of DDR2 RAM with a 128bit interface to be more expensive than the $90 or so that I saw here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000380048+1069609641+1068310557+106791921+10684 09613+1068509618&name=128-bit).
"If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is."
I suppose what I really need to know is, will the drivers for these cards be able to correctly drive the DVI connection.
Something I had in my previous workplace was a pair of 20" LCD panels connected through a Y cable to a single video card DVI connector... A single desktop about 3000 pixels wide, with no need for setting up xinerama.

Heres the link for the 8800 series, As the link you had is for the 84-8600 series.
GeForce 8800GTS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000380048+106791921+1067924922&name=GeForce+8800GTS)
As for drivers Gutsy has the latest nvidia driver which has support for the 8series geforce cards.

You have to test that setup with your new hardware, As what works on one hardware setup may not travel over.
Also most users with dual screens, and nvidia cards run TwinView (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=221174).

Yes, I realized, when I read your post, that I'd mixed up three things...
I remembered the prices of the 8500 ranges, wrote that these prices were for the 8800 range, and then I posted a link to the 8600 range. :lolflag:
